How do you handle used batteries from an office cleanout?
We ended up with a few boxes of mixed batteries after replacing equipment, everything from alkaline to lithium ion and some old lead acid units. I have never dealt with this volume before. How do you usually verify that a recycling service is legit and actually compliant?

I went through something similar last year and the first thing I looked at was whether the company actually documents what happens to the material. Batteries usually need to be sorted by chemistry, and a provider that mentions this upfront tends to know what they are doing. For electronics, I paid attention to data handling more than anything else, since old drives are the real risk. Some providers do on site shredding and issue certificates, others just take the hardware away and stay vague about the rest, which I would avoid. I compared a few options and reviewed here among others, mainly because the scope of services was described in plain terms, including data center and UPS decommissioning and even X ray equipment removal, which is not something every company handles. Ask about compliance standards they follow, who does the transport, and what paperwork you get afterwards. If the answers are vague or everything sounds too easy, that is usually a sign to keep looking. This is only my own observation, so it makes sense to verify details yourself before committing.
